God’s Table for Us - GEMS Collected from Bible Study Groups Devotional

Psalm 31:19 (New King James Version)
19 Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons        of men!

Have boldness, take refuge in Jesus before the sons of men. Fear, revere and worship – do not elevate SELF but flow in real worship. Worship isn’t just “a good idea” or a “have to”. “Laid up” = a stockpile – ready reserve, wrought or created especially for us.

Psalm 23

 1 The LORD is my shepherd;
         I shall not want.
 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
 3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
         For His name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
         I will fear no evil;
         For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
         You anoint my head with oil;
         My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
         All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD
         Forever.

The table is prepared before us – enemies are eating with enemies at the Lord’s table. We are to lift up and pray for our enemies. The footnote says that the oil is the run-off from us to others.

Psalm 92:10 (New King James Version)

10 But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil.

Psalm 78:19 (New King James Version)

19 Yes, they spoke against God: They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

Psalm 16:5 (New King James Version)

5 O LORD, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot.

Our Lord Jesus has so many incredible plans for us, even plans for reconciliation with our enemies, plans to make us a blessing to them and all to put the glory spotlight right on Jesus where it belongs.
His ways are not our natural inclination. It we do open our ears His ways will be heard and surprise and liberate us!

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for a better way and a higher road. Thank you for showing us the narrow path and taking us off the wide and crooked highways of our lives. Thank you that you care enough to have a plan and a future for us, will take us by the hand and lead. Thanks also that your Holy Spirit is the most incredible teacher. Please give us “ears to hear and eyes to see” each and every day that you have planned for us. In your most capable name, Jesus, AMEN

RUDELY INTERRUPTED BY WAPITI

Psalm 4:8 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Thick, creamy, delicious melting on my tongue…. ahhh, dark chocolate – probably not the best idea for my teeth at bedtime but makes for wonderful dreams…I rolled over trying to snuggle under the blankets…. something isn’t right…..

I am hearing whistling – hum, our older kitty is asleep with us since she was having some serious problems and is probably on her way to kitty heaven soon, so she isn’t asleep in the garage kitty condos. No, through sleep fog I realized it is not Katy snoring.

With one eye at half mast and the other tightly closed I peeked. It was a full moon, the light is pouring in through the wooden blind slats. Oh, no! Not elk!

I jumped up and cocked a wooden blind looking all over the front yard. Yes, there down at the end of my flower garden by the newly planted iris were chocolate furry butts, two of them, way too huge to be deer.

Adrenalin hit big time as I hollered to Mick “Honey, there are ELK in my IRIS and I ‘m grabbing my bathrobe….. you coming with me?”

“Muff- waah, frump, huh?”

By that time I have the bathrobe where it would do me some good, I storm to the front door, throw it open and roar a big growl. The elk scattered. Oh, my goodness are there really THAT many? About 30 of the massive wapiti flew is several directions. I could hear the thundering of their hooves and feel the shaky ground. Then I made the mistake of talking to them, they pull up short, turn and look at me with curiosity.

This is why I hit the porch with a growl. I knew from past episodes that even clapping my hands and barking made them move a couple yards , then stop to check me out.  I didn’t want them to check me out I wanted them to GET OUT. I haven’t slaved over those iris, trying to grow them at 8600 feet to have them be elk brunch.

So, I growled my best HUGE dog and bear growl combo, they took off once again. Some were puzzled by the black snow fence with only one jumping it – the rest ran the length and to the smooth wire fence they were accustomed to jumping.

“Hey, did you see those elk that were lying down when you growled? They didn’t stand up they shot, like a rocket straight up and took off – hey, next time could you try clapping so we don’t worry about them tearing down the fence?”

Yep, my hubby was now awake and giving me advice…never once had they torn down the fence as this has happened about 4 times now. Most of the time I had my elk encounters in the middle of the night while Mick was gone hunting, so I was the resident elk motivator expert here….

Two hours later my adrenalin was still running on high. I finally slept. The next morning showed that though they had eaten several of my new iris to a nubbins they hadn’t uprooted them. Whew, I growled just in time.

Oh, no, while I was out there I totally forgot to check the seedling ponderosas to see if they got trampled!

And the score is Marijo five and elk ZERO. The seedlings were ok proving these 700 to over 1000 pound critters did know how to do a delicate dance. And to think this all stated out with sweet dreams about chocolate…..

Grilled Veggies

YOU ARE INVITED FOR DINNER TONIGHT!!

What works even better than the sword-like skewers is a little basket apparatus I found at Wal-Mart a couple years back in the patio department. It looks like a metal, flat basket and I immediately dubbed them “grilley baskets” I have long since forgotten what they are supposed to be called. OK, I googled and they are grill baskets or hamburger baskets and now they come in non-stick. I might have to rethink this whole thing. The only problem with my grilley baskets is that they are impossible to clean. That doesn’t stop me though in that anything is sterilized in the dishwasher or on the flame of the grill. GRIN

Usually a day or two before the grilling event I wash and marinate any of a variety of veggies.
You can precook a sweet potato or regular potato in the microwave with the peel on and slice into 1/2 to ¾ inch circumferences.

Mushrooms are delightful.

Small or any size bell peppers – yellow, red, orange – cut up into relatively flat pieces

Onions cut into ¼ to ½ inch slices

Little cherry tomatoes

Any veggie you would like to try – go for this yummy way to have an easy supper

The marinades I love the best are the fat free ones by Lawry’s. My favorites are Hawaiian and the Chipotle or Mesquite Lime. Place veggies in a zip lock bag and pour on the marinade – refrigerate on a plate for several hours to several days. A baggie full of chicken breasts completes the meal.

Turn the grill on high on the grilling day. I let it get up to 500 degrees while arranging the veggies in the baskets placed over cookie sheets in the kitchen. Stack ‘em up and take the whole batch to the grill. The chicken can go in a basket also if you like.

Arrange the baskets in a single layer over the grill surface and keep a pot holder handy. I move them around about every 5 minutes, turning them and getting them rearranged so they brown but don’t burn.
You may also use any oil based salad dressing for marinade.

Easy, yummy and fun to do ahead so you have little prep the day of.
ENJOY

We are having the veggies with a T-bone I found in the freezer and some pork chops (I won';t have to cook tomorrow either)

Full Sail University-School Pride Essay by Jessie I Snyder

This is a guest piece by my friend Jessie:

Full Sail University-School Pride Essay by Jessie I Snyder

From the time I was nine years old I wanted to become a professional writer. I wanted to write my own books, write for magazines, and for websites. I practiced and practiced until I became an excellent writer. I learned to write from my heart and soul. I thought I was on my way to my dream career.

Then when I was 14 years old I was diagnosed with HIV after receiving a blood transfusion during surgery to repair a broken neck. I was told that I probably wouldn’t live to reach my 18th birthday. I was only in the fifth grade therefore graduating high school didn’t even seem to be an option for me. At that point college was last thing on my mind.

As the years passed and new medicine became available my health improved and my future became brighter. I was able to finish high school and on June 3, 1993 I graduated from Pearl Cohn Comprehensive High. At that point I still wasn’t sure about going to college. I knew I still wanted to become a professional writer, but I also knew how hard it was going to be to make a career out of writing. However, in the fall of 1997 I enrolled in college at Nashville Tech, I majored in small business management, but in the spring semester I had to drop out due to my health.

Many more years passed me by and it was still my dream to obtain a college degree. Then again in 2007 I enrolled in college at Nashville State Community College, this time I majored in office administration medical concentration. But after five years of attending college to become a medical secretary, I felt like I had not accomplished my dream of becoming a writer. I was now 39 years old and not getting any younger. At that point I decided to find a school that could help me in accomplishing my dream. I started searching the Internet for colleges and universities that offered a degree in creative writing.

After hours and hours on the Internet I came across Full Sail University. I found that Full Sail University offered a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing for Entertainment. I had finally found a college that would specifically contribute to my career path and help my attain my dream career of becoming a professional writer. So I filled out the online enrollment application and the next day I was contacted by the admissions department. I completed the admissions process and on April 30, 2012 I began working towards a degree that would help direct me on the path to my dream career as a professional writer.

Out of all the colleges I researched, Full Sail University was the only college I found that offered me exactly what I was going to need to become the professional writer that I so desperately wanted to become. I would like to say: “Thank you Full Sail University for helping me obtain the right education and making my dream of becoming a professional writer come true.”

Cats with Herpes and Some Inexpensive Help

Our little orange tabby, DT was the latest addition to our growing family of kitties.  After he came into the household all the other 3 cats had a couple of days of sneezing. We didn’t think much of that until the girls started getting a squinting eye with some discharge. We took them to our cat specialist who tried antibiotics to no avail. About a week later we found ourselves taking “the girls” (Mitzi and Katy) to an eye specialist. Aside from a pony in the parking lot being treated by the vet, his office looked pretty much like any “normal” vet. We found out that both the girls had herpes in their eye and could eventually go blind from it.  That and the fact that Katy had a tooth pulled put the girl’s medical bill up to $1000 in just six short weeks. We then cancelled Christmas. The kitties and their eyes would be my husband’s and my gift to each other.

The vet said that DT got herpes when he was born from his mother’s infected birth canal.

The eye specialist gave me L-Lycine for the girls and instructed me how to melt it in water and give it to them twice a day.  He was charging $10 for 10 pills.  I had the presence of mind to ask if this was the same L-Lycine found in the health food stores (actually Wal-Mart for a huge bottle is less than $3) and he said yes.

Pretty soon DT got a “gotch eye” – Mommy was quick to “diagnose” herpes in his eye and being the L-Lycine.  He was not fond of it mixed with his food so we got a large bar-b-que basting syringe and gave it to him a sip at a time in his mouth. Imagine the hand scruffed half grown tiger wiggling, stabbing his back claws into whatever part of me was available, and running away. I proved a bit more persistent and within 2 days the “gotch eye” was gone.

L-Lycine is an amino acid (protein) and actually is helpful with “people” herpes (cold sores or otherwise) outbreaks if caught at the first sign of symptoms. It sure fixed the kitties.  We have been using it on all of ours for 9 years now and have always turned around their herpes attacks and have never had to take one to the vet for herpes since.  Most are more compliant that DT and will take it mixed with a small amount of canned cat food. This approach is much more fun for “mommy” than the syringe but you do what you have to do to keep from cancelling Christmas again.

Do You Trust the Giver?

What if
The blind man said:

"Don't, that mud smells yucky
Get it away from me!"
Jesus said, "It will make you well
And help your blind eyes see."

"Man, you are funny
I've been blind since my birth
And you're telling me
That I can be cured by spittle and earth?"

Jesus shrugged His shoulders
And said, "Can't you see
It's not the clay I put on your eyes
But having faith and trust in Me?"

And the blind man sat and grumbled
Not wanting to open up to You
As I pondered this little scene
I recalled my resistance too....

You wanted me to give You my trust
And I thought I did each day
But we got to an area where I'd closed the door
And You wanted to open the way

"If He wants me to have IT, He'll have to give IT to me."
But I was a blind one too
Although my voice was saying the words, in my heart
I was locking the door on You.

I have to be careful of the devil, you know
Can't listen to what others say
But then I started shutting out part of God's Word
"I can't look at that today"

Being the gentleman that You are
You didn't get pushy with me
But planted seeds all along the way
that made me desirous to be free

I went along my walk with You
Sometimes uphill then down
You let me cool my heels awhile
Then started bringing me around

Then one day I prayed to You
Asked for help in digging in Your Word
But I couldn't remember the question I had
And thought that was pretty absurd

But You had this planned all along
And were my guide on this discovery
You went around back of that closed door
To lead me to recovery

At first I wanted to prove MY point
And thought the evidence was growing
Now looking back, I have to smile
At all the seeds You were sowing

You took me straight to Your Word
Way back to the ancient Greek
Not into books that were pro or con
You didn't even have me peek

Nor did you send anyone to twist my arm
I just wrestled there with You
I'm sure glad You came back
To help me follow through

And Now I realize, You can't give anything to me
When only my mouth says yes
When I've closed my eyes and shut my ears
And won't allow You to bless

Then I thought back to the blind man
And how untrusting he would be
If he'd said NO to your mud
And chosen not to see

Thank You for coming round again
From behind my closed door
And helping me yield to You
And in faith trusting more

It wasn't the smell of the mud You used
Nor really the gift You gave
But once again my stubborn SELF
And that little room I was trying to save

Lord, I give "ME" all to You
I can't believe how sweet the air
Within that once closed part has become
Since I yielded to Your tarrying there!

Thoughts on the Proverbs 31 Woman

Proverbs 31
The Virtuous Wife
10 A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman--who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls.

10a A man the Lord loves can find her, with discernment and an eye for worth. GOD can find her and so can the guy who seeks God.

10b The most valuable things in life are our relationships with God and with others.

11The heart of her husband trusts in her confidently and relies on and believes in her securely, so that he has no lack of [honest] gain or need of [dishonest] spoil.

Inside her husband is at rest about her: she is a good household businesswoman and she is thrifty and manages their money well.

12She comforts, encourages, and does him only good as long as there is life within her.

She gives him comfort: will be there, be stable and compassionate and tender.
She will encourage him. This is active and aggressive meaning bolster, lift up to Jesus. Also to verbalize that “lifting up” to her husband by seeing and saying his strengths.

She will do him only good: choose his highest good, unselfishly, share his pluses and areas of strength with others. She will have a careful watch on her tongue, what she says and how she says it.

13She seeks out wool and flax and works with willing hands [to develop it].

She makes raw materials into goods. Wool is scratchy and warm. Flax is made into linen. They are then woven into garments for her family and for sale. Her businesswoman aspect is shown here again.

14She is like the merchant ships loaded with foodstuffs; she brings her household's food from a far [country].

This is talking about physical and spiritual food. She shows variety and creativity.

15She rises while it is yet night and gets [spiritual] food for her household and assigns her maids their tasks.

Lord, God, help me to call upon You first and not dread the early part of this so much.

16She considers a [new] field before she buys or accepts it [expanding prudently and not courting neglect of her present duties by assuming other duties]; with her savings [of time and strength] she plants fruitful vines in her vineyard. [S. of Sol. 8:12.]

She is to “look before she leaps and not overextend. Prudence leads to resources and reinvestment.

17She girds herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] and makes her arms strong and firm.

She “puts on” strength.  This indicates “active” strength.  It is available and she actively “puts it on”.

18She tastes and sees that her gain from work [with and for God] is good; her lamp goes not out, but it burns on continually through the night [of trouble, privation, or sorrow, warning away fear, doubt, and distrust].

God seems to enjoy “eating” metaphors.
She had oil for ALL times This oil could indicate the Holy Spirit too. The oil keeps fear, doubt and distrust away (but not necessarily bad times).

19She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

She uses her skills and is willing.

20She opens her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her filled hands to the needy [whether in body, mind, or spirit].

She had abundance to give: physical provision, mental provision, spiritual provision.  She gave freely to those in need. She made an effort and reached out.

21She fears not the snow for her family, for all her household are doubly clothed in scarlet.

Her household is ready for inclement weather and times.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to know that you will not call me to something that is impossible. That in that calling, you will provide, prepare and go before me. Help me to be able to see more and more of what you are saying in this Proverb.  Help me to become more and more than woman who is completely yours and a blessing to all who meet her. AMEN

DID YOU GET SAVED IN THE BATHTUB?

DID YOU GET SAVED IN THE BATHTUB?

Our Lord had the creativity
And the beauty perception
To make no two snowflakes
Alike
Yet we can tell they are all snowflakes

The Bible tells us that we don't have to
Get cleaned up before coming to Him
For His salvation gift
But He meets us,
As the individual He created
Where we are
IF we but ask

I PRAYED THROUGH IN THE BATHTUB

And satan has such ball games
With doctrinism and denominationalism
That he gets "brother" and "sister"
Going round and round
About one dip or two
About purified vessels then
The Holy Spirit vs.
Holy Spirit and FIRE vs.
You had Him all the time dummy,
All you need is growth,
Gifts as signs vs.
Gifts? that went out with the 1st century
Vs Gifts? Oh, we don't want to look at that.
It's too controversial....

Oh, Lord, what happened to Your
Coordinated body with You at the head?
Orchestrated by Your Holy Spirit?

There is a message for all those
Amputated parts-

IF YOU DIDN'T GET SAVED IN THE
BATHTUB, BROTHER,
THEN YOU DIDN'T GET SAVED AT ALL!!

A Look at God’s Love and Ours

His love controls my urges and compels me:
John 17:26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” (NKJV)

2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died… (NKJV)

Author’s note: I have found if I am DEAD – that means I don’t scream, holler and kick my feet. NO tantrums, no squawking, no murmuring or complaining = FREEDOM! Oh, my….

John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (NKJV)

Romans 12:9 (Behave like a Christian – the online Bible I am using has this for a subtitle for the passage) Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. (NKJV)

God’s love is a walk:

Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. (NKJV)

John 15:12-15 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. (NKJV)

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.(NKJV)

Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. (NKJV)

1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” (NKJV)

Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins. (NKJV)

Proverbs 17:9 He who covers a transgression seeks love, But he who repeats a matter separates friends. (NKJV)

OK are you getting into the rhythm of this walk? And is it making more sense why we have to WALK this love idea out every minute of the day. Perhaps if we tried to RUN we’d be missing out. That has definitely been my experience. Go too fast and miss smelling the iris and learning many of the Lord’s most valuable lessons, voice of experience here.

2 Timothy 4:8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.(NKJV)

Hebrews 1:9 You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”(NKJV)

Psalm 91:14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;I will set him on high, because he has known My name.(NKJV)

Zephaniah 3:17

The LORD your God in your midst,
      The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.” (NKJV)

God’s Love:                                        Our Love:

1 Optimistic                                        1 Pessimistic

2 Positive                                           2 Negative

3 Life                                                 3 Death

4 Life giving/liberating                         4 Binding

5 Unconditional                                  5 Conditional

6 Doesn’t notice                                 6 Takes offence

7 Forgives/forgets                              7 Holds grudges

8 Inclusive                                         8 Exclusive

9 Peaceful/proper timing                    9 Anxious

What incredible reasons to yield to His love and to ask Him to do His most perfect work within us - so we can become more like Him in all areas. Especially more like Him in the area of love.

So he answered and said, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself. (NKJV)

AMEN
