Backslid Friend

You are concerned over your sister’s path and rightfully so. She needs ME but is blind. I will bring her again into the fullness of my love in time. Pray and move as I direct. Love her with my love.

What does it mean to love your friend? Does it mean allowing them to do what they choose and being silent or does it mean sharing God’s truth and His Word in love. Sometimes we need to risk the friendship to save the friend. Have you ever been in those circumstances where you knew you had to speak the truth even if it meant that person got angry and broke off the relationship? It never “feels good” to be there but it is so necessary. I cannot remember a single time when that friendship was ruptured for good when the Lord’s Word was gently applied to a loved one’s life, but it sure was scary going into the conversation. Sometimes the issue wasn’t resolved instantly either.

Proverbs 17:9 He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates friends.

Please take a pen and write down what the Holy Spirit is speaking to you through the following scriptures today:

Proverbs 10:12

James 5:16

Ezekiel 33:6

My Commitment:

Prayer: Lord, please convict my friend.  Draw her back to you as only you can. Help me to know when to be bold and share the truth in love and when to be quiet. Help me to pray always until the burden lifts. In Jesus’ most incredible name, AMEN

Come Before God With Thanksgiving and Praise

Does it comfort you that God knows you better than anyone? He knows us even better than we know ourselves. He made us, thought us up and loved all that made us uniquely ourselves before we were ever conceived. We have so much to be thankful for especially during this time we traditionally set aside for thankfulness. There is so much good to reflect upon as the day we remember comes closer.

He knows me, and I share that with my readers in writing what the Lord laid on my heart:

My child, impetuous tempest that you sometimes are, tarry. Listen to Me. Seek my wisdom in the Word. Come before me with thanksgiving and praise.

Does it comfort you that God knows you better than anyone else. He knows us even better than we know ourselves. He made us, thought us up and loved all that made us uniquely ourselves before we were ever conceived. We have so much to be thankful for especially during this time we traditionally set aside for thankfulness. There is so much good to reflect upon as the day we remember comes.

One of the most important things we can do is to seek God’s wisdom. Let’s take a look at some scriptures which speak about praise and thanksgiving. I have listed but a few as the bible is full of them.

Psalm 71:6 By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You.

Let’s look at some more scriptures. Please write what the Holy Spirit is saying to you, personally, this day.

Luke 24:49

Psalm 26:7

Psalm 69:30

I Chronicles 29:13

My Commitment:

Prayer: We lift our voices and our hearts to You, Lord of Lords and King of Kings! We especially thank you during this Thanksgiving season in our lives, for your provision and for the journey that you are leading us through.  In the name of Jesus, AMEN

THE Most Amazing Cat Toy

.....Oh, my GOODNESS, it is the biggest cat toy I have ever seen! It twinkles and sparkles and flashes – oh, look at those BALLS, just for ME…. smash, crash…

“Mom, Hooney just attacked the Christmas tree and knocked it back into the wall.” lamented Caleb.

“Caleb, can you catch that rascal tabby and put him in the basement? He needs a permanent “time out””, said Mom with a sigh.

.....Ahhh, shucks, and I was just sure that toy was put there just for ME… meow… let me just duck behind this couch and maybe they will forget me......,purred Hooney while scrunching under the couch.

“Mommy, where’d Fat Cat go?” puzzled Liliana.

“If that calico knows what is good for her, she’ll be asleep somewhere instead of helping Hooney destroy the Christmas tree we just put up!”, called Mom from the kitchen.

“ I can’t get him, Mom, he just swatted my hand and is WAY back behind the couch. Besides he is too big for me to lift.” “You need to be on a diet, Hooney, your tuna breath is amazing too…” muttered Caleb trying to catch the hiding orange feline.

.....Ffft, I will NOT go to the BASEMENT. There is nothing any fun down there....., Hooney huffed as he wiggled his hind end and took off to hide behind the other couch. Just barely running by the tree , for one more swipe at a tinsel covered branch, with a fragile looking ornament – SHATTER….

“Mom, this time he got the big star of Bethlehem and flattened it all over the floor in a million pieces!”, yelled Caleb.

“You crazy cat! What’s the matter with you? I am NEVER going to get dinner into the oven at this rate, get OVER here….” hollered Mom running into the living room. “Gotcha, and down the basement you GO!” Mom exclaimed as she unceremoniously dumped Hooney on the top step and slammed the door.

.....Harumph, YOWL, I can’t believe this, if that wasn’t a giant cat toy they why in the world did they put it right in the middle of MY HOUSE.....?! With that, Hooney covered his eyes with his paws.

“Hand me that dust buster and let me get rid of this glass, Caleb”, asked Mom.

“You know, Mom, I don’t think Hooney knows what the Christmas tree and Christmas are all about, does he?” asked Lilliana as she picked up the little manger with the baby Jesus in it.

“You know, Lily, that would be a real good bet.” answered Caleb, turning to his Mom, ” but Jesus didn’t come to save Hooney, did He?”

“No, Jesus came to save people like you and me and Daddy and Lily…. we have all said and done things which break God’s heart, we need to ask forgiveness. That’s why Jesus came, not to save cats and dogs. You are So right, Caleb”, said Mom.

“Hey, Fat-Cat waked up and she put her paws under the basement door, they’re playing!” observed Lily.

Thump, thunk, thud, thud….

“Quick, let’s turn on the tree lights and enjoy each ornament and what it means while they are playing,” grinned Mom.

“Yeh, and don’t anybody open that basement door!” said Lily as she snuggled close to her Mom.

Jesus is Faithful Even When We Aren’t

Child, you are my daughter and I love you. My timing is not your timing, but be not dismayed at that revelation. I AM yours and you are mine. Keep on seeking Me and Mine for you. You shall find and learn beauty through delay. I vacillate not nor waver in My purpose/plan/plans for you, fear not but meet each day, maximize on it and keep focused on Me. Sometimes it is not so much where you are but WHO you are, wherever you are. If you maximize on Me and stay pure, holy and ready I can use you in a vast variety of circumstances. I love you (both) and have a plan. I still go before you and prepare the way/doors. I Am THE door. Do all without anxiety, living that moment for itself, taking advantage of that opportunity as it is there.  Then, you , at that moment, have no other (moment) to be concerned, focused on, anxious about or speculating about. Use it to my advantage and I’ll bring forth the increase in them and you. I AM undertaking, fear not. I also have several plans which allow for various ”wills” and choices. And I have My best. Sometimes it doesn’t come about even if you and I are on target because of others but and still ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD FOR THOSE WHO LOVE ME AND ARE CALLED. You can’t lose. Selah.

Sometimes we mess up big time.  Like bidding on e-bay and getting totally carried away. By the time we win the bid we are wondering why we even placed it to begin with. Not being fiscally responsible is not part of who I am. Until this past couple of weeks. Tonight I need to talk to my husband and ask his forgiveness. There are many times I haven’t made the best choices, but Jesus….

Isaiah 43: 1-3
But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel:  “ Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior…..(NKJV)

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (NIV)

And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it. (NIV)

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. (NIV)

May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.

[ More Than Conquerors ] And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, it has been years since that day I prayed to ask You to be my Lord. SO much has happened. You’ve brought me through and been there always, through it all…. Lord, today especially I have some needs. I desire to know Your will for me and to be in the center of it. I know You desire to have me hear you and obey. I die to my desires and seek to hear You even now. AMEN

Hush and Maybe You Will Hear from God

Daughter, my peace I speak unto you. My Son lives in you and he reigns in your heart. Allow Him to meet your every need. Quiet your spirit before me and look to my Word. The Holy Spirit shall teach and guide you through the written living pages. Be still and KNOW that I am God.

When I was very young, I was shy, then came the talkative years. I remember older family members asking me to “be quiet”, “be still” – yes I was a wiggler too. Sometime in my adult life reading God’s Word I came across “be still and know that I am God”. OK, it is beginning to sink in. When I close my mouth and focus on another perhaps I can actually learn something.  We are told of something which is precious in the sight of God, I don’t know about you but to me this looks like something to seek and go after, quietly, of course. Who wouldn’t like to have qualities that are “precious in the sight of God”?

I Pet 3:4 …rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

Let’s look at a couple more verses this afternoon. Please write down what they mean to you today; what the Holy Spirit is whispering to your heart.
Isaiah 30:15

Isaiah 32:17

My Commitment:

Prayer: Ah, Lord Jesus, please let it not be said of me that I “would not” (Isa 30:15) May I learn from that still, small voice when to speak and when to rest in you. Please help me to “tune in” and hear and listen. We ask this in Your incredible name, Jesus, AMEN

Have You Put Down Roots?

You’re excited by the wind it is almost like you see my Spirit move. What makes the trees so beautiful? They move and sway in worship and praise they are yielded so my Spirit can give them even greater beauty than when standing still. Learn from that tree. It goes nowhere but stands for me where it is planted, roots going deeper and deeper. Be yielded like that tree and I'll make of you a song of great beauty in Jesus Christ my Son.

Tumble weeds tumble, they are designed to do this very thing and that is how they spread their seeds all over your yard, fields and acreage. They have shallow roots for a purpose. People, however seem to grow best with a deep root system, so to speak. We need to be rooted and grounded or we, too, will be like the tumble weed and that was not the intention of Him who created us. I love Isaiah as you might have noted if you read many of my Biblical based pieces. I love those word pictures and can see that happen with the coming of our Lord. All His creation will know and recognize him. I also suspect it is a promise for His Body who definitely needs to be led out with peace.

Isaiah 55:12 “For you shall go out with joy and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you, and all the trees of the flied shall clap their hands.”

Grab a pen and write down what our Lord is speaking to your heart through these scriptures this afternoon.

Jer 17:8

Eze 31:7

My Commitment:

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help us to learn from the trees and the wind. Help us to yield unto you and your Holy Spirit moving in our lives daily. In your name, Lord Jesus, AMEN

Can You Do It?

Child, can you do “it”? (plug in whatever your circumstance might be for “it”) No, you cannot, but “it” is My gift given to you so that you can see just how able I AM – I don’t mean for you to struggle with grunting, groaning and unbelief (picture getting a hernia lifting that back pack with that boulder that I can make fly off with one touch of My finger). I mean for you to agree with the enemy -do I have your attention? And say “no, I cannot handle this – it is too big for me, you are right enemy, BUT my Jesus is more than able, more than capable, more than willing and I am calling upon Him right now.

Have you ever agreed with the enemy? Sometimes what he is saying is the truth. We can remind him that we do agree but also have a Champion fighting on our side. We are often times weak but He is strong, in our weakness His strength is made perfect. It is good to remind the devil and ourselves of this at the same time.

Isaiah 54:5 For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name; and your Redeemer is the Holy one of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth.

Think about those times you were in an impossible situation and the Lord Jesus Christ stepped in on your behalf. Please look up the following verses and make a few notes about how they apply to your life right now.

Joel 2:32

Acts 2:21

Galatians 6:2

Psalm 118:5

My Commitment:

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we believe, please help our unbelief. We praise Your most wonderful name over “it”, the impossible thing we have been lugging around when we could give it to You. We look to You for Your solution in our lives. We ask this in Jesus’ name, AMEN.

By His Spirit

Not by might, not by power but by MY Spirit saith the Lord. Is there rest in that? You bet. Is there peace in that, more than enough peace. Is there comfort knowing – yes, yes, yes, knowing in your “knower” and most importantly allowing My Holy Spirit to let that “knowing” trickle does into your heart and soul!

Chuckling, I am remembering the Big, Bad Wolf huffing and puffing to blow the house down…. And those Three Little Pigs…. Well, we have a Champion and His name is Jesus. He is bigger than the wolf or him who prowls about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. He is the God of the whole of eternity. He is there on our behalf!

Zechariah 4:6 So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: (put your name in this scripture) ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts.

Write down a few things these scriptures are saying as they apply to you and your life today.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

2 Timothy 1:12

1 John 4:16

My Commitment:

Prayer: Lord God, thank You for the wonderful promises in your Word for our peace, comfort, and every need. Help us to apprehend them more daily as we read Your testament to us. Help us to apply them to our situations and grow more secure in You. We ask this in Jesus most incredible name! AMEN

If I Could Do Anything

Finally, at age 67, I figured out what I want to be when I grow up (besides a published author which I am now).

Do you like solving a problem, perhaps looking at the puzzle pieces and putting them together until a picture appears? Do you enjoy helping people? Also, knowing which references to use to find the answers you do not have in your brain. I sure do.

Normal and predictable hours at work would be wonderful too rather than the possibility of around the clock and 24/7. I spend many years as a registered nurse in a variety of different settings, working in the hospital on nights then evenings and with an occasional rare day shift thrown in. Sometimes that meant leaving at midnight after charting was finished (no they didn’t pay us over time to sit and write about what we had done that shift but expected us to stay after we clocked out) only to turn around and punch in at 6:30 the following morning. That morning came early and without much sleep.

Hours in the doctor’s office were much, much better. My boss of ten years gave the two RNs credit for being thinking and astute nurses. There were many things he had “standing orders” for and we could go ahead and treat some patients over the phone for minor illnesses that were obvious, we could assess symptoms and order lab before he saw them so by the time they were in rooms he would have those lab results. In many ways we functioned somewhat like nurse practitioners, without the pay or complete autonomy of one, however.

By now you might be guessing, if I could do anything I would love to get a further degree and be a nurse practitioner. It would be a challenge but one I think I would love.

Now why did I wait until I was in my 60s to get this figured out. This seems to go along with my life-long pattern beginning with Iowa State University and my “changing majors” course of study. Yep, I started out in interior decorating. Someone finally told me I would have to draw renderings of the rooms I was describing for clients. I cannot draw a triangle with a ruler. I remember looking at that instructor and asking “Why can’t I show them the fabric and the style of couch and have them close their eyes and see how the room will look?”

“You can do that?”

“Well, yes, that’s how mom and I decorate rooms at home or make outfits we’d like.”

“Very few people have that ability, Marijo.”

And that was the abrupt end of my interior decorating venture. However, since I married a builder it has served me well through the years. No, I don’t draw pictures for him, he just turns me loose because we enjoy the same colors and style of decoration.

My next course of study was child development and I was in my junior year, planning to work with kids in orphanages when someone casually mentioned that things had switched to foster care and there were not many orphanages in existence in the US anymore. How did that slip by? I knew I didn’t want to do elementary education and to work with kids in a hospital setting like in play therapy, would mean a big city and I disliked big cities. So I then decided to get my nursing degree.

It has only been within the last 6 or so years that I came to the conclusion nurse practitioner would have been just perfect.

Abundance of His Peace

My child, I would love to have you resting, trusting and leaning on My most capable arms. Are they big enough? More than that! Do I have enough peace to help you overcome? Rooms and rooms full of peace – just open that door and take a peek, it will leak out all over you!

Is God’s peace made in limited quantities?  We can trust Him to have more than enough for the needs of all of us! We need to learn to trust Him more and rest in the peace He gives us through circumstances and situations. We learn a little and there is so much more to know and experience of our limitless God and His wonderful provision for all our needs.

Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.

Write down an area where you need God’s provision, put today’s date by it and then begin praying for Him to do the impossible. Also, look up the following scriptures and jot down a few notes as the scripture applies to you, today.

Proverbs 3:4-6

Philippians 4:7

John 14:27

My Commitment:

Prayer: Dear Father God please help us to grow in our understanding of just how endless your provision is, provision for us to grow, learn, and become more like your Son, Jesus. Help us to recognize when You step in and do the impossible in our lives. We ask these things in the name of Jesus, AMEN.

Wonder Working Power

Child, You are blessed and Jesus is oh, so, more than able – back up and back off and see the wonder working power of the Lord Jesus Christ – today, tomorrow and right through the calendar on your behalf. Are His ears too deaf that He can’t hear? I AM the God of the impossible.

Do we often find ourselves in what we consider to be impossible situations?  I think we could answer a resounding “yes” to this question. Why do we struggle to give these situations to the Lord Jesus, I know I do. He really is the God of the impossible. And He wants more than anything to carry us through. He hears us! What He did for the 3 men in Daniel He still does for us today.

Daniel 3:17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.

Make a few notes on these scriptures and how they apply to your situation even now.
2Chronicles 20:6

Hebrews 7:25

Jude 1:24-25

Genesis 16:13

My Commitment:

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we thank You for being so dependable. We thank You that You carry us when we can’t even walk by ourselves. Help us to yield sooner rather than later or not at all. We give our life and family into your hands today. In Your name we pray, AMEN.

Straight Arrow

Photo taken close to that day mentioned below - a few years later....

It was back in the day of “free” …… “free” love, drugs, sex, the flower power generation. My best friend used to make the peace sign with her fingers saying “love, peace, syphilis…” It sounded rather crude but definitely made a valid statement. I had worked as an RN in a university infirmary and Katie had a point.
I was playing atheist back in that day and drinking way too much. My usual attire when not in nurse’s whites were patched jeans and tie dyed T-shirts. I did take baths and managed to get to work at the hospital to punch in at 2:15 each afternoon so I suppose I was not a “real” hippie. I had yet to smoke a joint and never did mess with anything else – I saw too many bad trips and overdoses coming into the infirmary and emergency room to take that chance.

We were visiting one of Katie’s male friends. This guy began his freshman year as a pudgy sort of nerdy guy. Over the next couple of years he had lost a lot of weight, grown his black locks longer and they were curly. He was now doing drugs as part of his undergrad studies. As he took one look at me he poked me in the waist band and pronounced “you’re a straight arrow….”

Since the only other time I had seen him was a couple years back when his house mother had made him help me carry groceries about a half a mile to my apartment because my boyfriend was in class, I am not sure what his pronouncement was based upon, maybe because I didn’t have bloodshot eyes or a staggering gait.
I also wasn’t eager to spend a whole bunch of time in his presence but hadn’t made that obvious during this visit.

If being a “straight arrow” meant that I didn’t do drugs, didn’t have the current STD or wasn’t “cool” by the standards of someone who did, then I was pretty happy to claim the title.

My friend Katie had met a young man while she and her mother were visiting Seattle. He had asked her to dinner. Her mom approved and she went to dinner with him. While they ate he slipped drugs into her drink. This was back in the 60s. It must have been LSD as she was found wandering across a bridge that did not allow pedestrian traffic during rush hour. The police took her to a mental facility and it was several days before her mom found her and she was coherent enough to tell the staff much of anything.

Katie didn’t get anywhere close to doing drugs nowadays. The experience with them in her past hadn’t been her choice and she was almost killed. We both did drink and got into enough trouble with that end of the spectrum.

She took one look at Trigg and his pronouncement of me as a straight arrow, rolled her eyeballs and said “let’s go.”

And we did.

Writing Inspiration

I was cleaning drawers today - found me, at 24 years old....during my alcoholic-atheist times......

When I was younger I would write to “get it all out”. If I was sad or angry I would grab a pen, pencil or sometimes sit at my typewriter and pour it all out on paper. When I finished the intense emotion was gone and I could go on. I was never sad or angry for long because I poured that out on paper. Many times, writing it down helped me get through and realize that the problem wasn’t nearly as big as I had it worked up to be in my mind.

I have always been a communicator. Many of my relationships ended up being on paper through “snail mail” as friends who’d stayed in Rochester for the summer ice skating sessions went home for the school year, or people moved and we stayed in touch or cousins who didn’t live where we did but I wanted a link to.

Writing became a part of life. My sister said when she looks at a blank piece of paper (before attempting to write a letter) she is literally filled with panic. “what to write, will it be boring, oh, do I have to do this….” For me, it was simply flight of thought and stream of consciousness. What the cat did that morning, how my garden looked, who I had seen or talked to that my sister might know…..

I wiggle. After I was made new and whole by Jesus it was only natural to sit, with a pencil in hand and write to Him and then write what I thought He was laying on my heart. This stopped the wiggles and gave me something to reflect upon when the immediate time was passed too. These scribbles are now in the process of becoming 10-12 published books.

As we grew up we were only allowed about 3 hours of TV a week and those only if chores were done and homework completed. We read a lot. Then the TV died. Dad was an electrician and the TV sat in the basement for 3 years waiting for him to fix it. Actually, that was probably the best gift he could have given us. We read some more. Through reading, I learned to appreciate the written word and venture out into to area of writing myself.

My biggest challenge is to write a concise word picture that I dub prosaic poetry. I do some of the rhyming ones also but prefer short ones with perfect words to grab a meaning and paint it on paper for my reader. I have been writing poetry since I was four and enjoying the challenge.

Everything I look at begs to be written about, communicated with someone else; my cats, the wildflowers in the yard, the colt down the road, my angst with a patient who didn’t make it when I was an RN, people tormenting and not realizing that a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ can truly set them FREE, the humor in a strange situation, husband-wife communication or miscommunication, LIFE…requires typing up because there is so much to share and so little time.

As I write today the winds are picking up, the springtime we had for a couple of weeks in this mountain meadow is about to be rudely postponed as we get up to 5 inches of much needed snow. The clouds are thick, pregnant with moisture. I am glad that those flowers I got are safe in the garage on the workbench. Planting will come later when the cold crystals have melted. I think those early spring days were sort of an April trick but we really did enjoy them while we had them! Yes, I just have to WRITE!

Reminders (in no specific order) from things Jesus has laid on my heart:

Pencil praise, WRITE to HIM

Touch others as I worship Him

Share His love

Yield my will and get in gear, Jesus gives the power

Shut out "what ifs", TRUST HIM

Be filled and refilled

Be still and He will teach me His peace

Be refreshed, be pure in Him

Life up arms, voice and being to Him

Seek His face and I will grow wherever He places me

Rejoice in today

Offer up my willfulness as a sacrifice of praise

Ask - show me how to "see" Him

"In your submission I shall mightily use you"

TRUST Him with my praises always

"Do not allow yourself to be distracted, wedding soon"

Focus - His will, "commands"

Let Jesus teach you His peace

DWELL in His Word and it will dwell in you

He can teach only as you accept instruction

Lean not unto your own understanding

KEY: for perfect peace in Him, allow Him to bear my every concern.

You, Jesus Liberated

Touch the hem of My garment
I'm still making whole
Your faith reaching to Me
Love responding, overwhelming

Love striped, bleeding, cross-confined
Entombed, then bursting free
Love stronger than grave cloths
Life-giving Agape arose forevermore

Now is your time, loosed
In bondage not again
Savior's footsteps pressing close
To resurrect the Son-filled child.

Matthew 9:19-21
New King James Version (NKJV)
19 So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples.
20 And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment.21 For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.”

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

John 20:5-7
New King James Version (NKJV)
And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there, and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself.
