Word from the Lord October 29, 2013

Color burst leaves, blowing into winter. But you tremble not as through the years you know resurrection does come in the springtime. My Son's empty tomb. A riot of iris, daffodils, crocus, hyacinths breaking forth, reminders of Him who conquered your death, your grave. Sin tattered grave clothes replaced by His robe of righteousness as you arise in new birth. Child, I see you rejoice as you live and move having your very being in Jesus your Lord. Springtime IS coming sooner than you know. Selah.

Isaiah 61:10
I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Acts 17:28
for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.

Calm Down, Quiet Yourself and Take Some Time Out

Looking down our driveway to the neighbor across the street, no you can't see his place!
Mount Mc Intyre is a pretty view!

Sometimes I can just see the Lord standing in front of me, waving His hands and doing all that He can to get my attention, to make me STOP and listen to Him. Do you ever experience this as you are doing double time from the washer to the dryer to the car and running errands, then playing chauffer and getting the whole family where they need to be, on time?  Yet Jesus is in front of you still.

You sense that He would love to give you peace but you are too busy running your list. Only you can take time. Only you can sit and spend time with Him. He will give you input that will make the rest of that list line up and get in order. He will help you figure out those things, little fires, that you do not really have to pay any attention to. He will help you free up those moments to become refreshed and renewed in His very presence as He imparts life to you. How do I know? Well, on occasion I STOP and listen and let Him be my chauffer, as it were.

Oh my daughter, I long to speak to your heart. Come, be apart from the world’s rush with Me. I can teach you peace only as you accept instruction. I delight to fellowship intimately with you. I AM always here. Draw rivers of peaceful refreshment from my limitless well, it is My gift to you. Quench your thirst. Be refreshed/sparkling inside and out., as a teacher on a hot, dusty desert after being drenched/satiated with an artesian spring. Be pure in Me. Let Me flow out from you. Let My Spirit overwhelm you with pure love, Agape, lift your arms, your voice and being to the One and only who is worthy. I love you. I know your every concern and am willing to bear it for you. Therein lies the key to perfect peace in Me. You are protected by the fortress of My love, encircling you in complete and total embrace. Relax. I really am in control. Have no fear but lean on the great I AM, eternal creator, only God. I clothe you with my robe of righteousness and endeavor to make you whole. Yield. Allow Me. I Am gentleness, truth. My way is expedient and best. Respond to Me and resist Me not. Verify your growth in My Word. You are my Daughter. I am your Father. Rejoice in that surety. Rejoice

We are encouraged to become more like little children, childlike rather than childish. In Luke 18:17 the Bible admonishes us that if we cannot receive the Kingdom of God like a little child we will not enter in. Maybe there is some good application to be learned here. Kids always make time to play, relax and enjoy relationship with their friends, don’t they?

John 15:19 tells us a bit about why “the world” hates us. Does it hurt you to be hated? Not if you take a look at the Word a bit deeper. Jesus had chosen us out of the world and we do not belong to the world. OK, then it follows that “the world” wouldn’t be too fond of us. This is a good thing then, can we be thankful?

John 14:27 speaks of the peace that the Lord gives to us and reminds us that He doesn’t give us “as the world gives” (hatred, grief, wrong motives, a hassle for doing “good”) and He further instructs us to “not let our hearts be troubled, not to be afraid”. When we look at it through His “glasses” we can see that all is as it should be if we are rejected by the world, more rejoicing material here. This could even be a report card of sorts!

John is full of good promises. In John 7:38 we are told that if we believe in Jesus according to the scripture that streams of living water will flow out of us. I don’t know about you but especially in these days I delight when life flows out of me, life that can affect those around me if I allow it to.

In James 4:7 we are given a most incredible promise that if we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil that he (the devil) will flee from us. Could it be that the enemy hates to even be around us when we are in submission to the Lord and His will is being done in out “space”? Whatever the dynamics are here this works. Remember the first part of that verse, the “submit yourself to God part”. Many times that verse is quoted omitting that first part. I feel it is in the first part where the power resides. When we submit and are obedient to Him and His leading that’s when He makes Himself a giant on our behalf.

In Psalm 105:3 we are encouraged to give Glory in his holy name; and to let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. This is the cherry on top and we can do this any time any minute of the day. I think it is time for me to do just that! Get into a peaceful place with His Word and allow Him to speak, once again, to this child.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, You alone have turned our mourning into gladness. Make us, mold us, renew us to be like You. Thank You for turning up the fire to get rid of the dross, thank you for Your incredible mercy in not giving us what we really deserve. Thank You that You rejoice over us with singing and love. Thank You that you want to spend time with us! AMEN.

Our Bank Account Filled With Years

We seem to have a bank account
Filled up with our years
Each given just so many
Tallying joy and our tears

How do we use them
The choice is up to you
Filled with words you say
And actions that you do

With that in remembrance
Focusing in on today
Would you do things differently
As you walk along your way?

And then the Lord Jesus Christ whispered to my heart:
Child, your appetite should be after spiritual things.
Fix your eyes on Jesus, allow his strength to be yours. Time is short.
Come into subjection to the Son so you might shine forth with His joy most abundantly.

Seek not to do and be busy but seek your Lord who eagerly awaits communion with you "Come back/away my beloved." And I shall lift you above the darts and desert of dryness of your soul. Be refreshed in Jesus who lives in you. Selah.

Deuteronomy 4:29 encourages us that if from there (right where we are now) you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Remember back when you were five and focused in on that new bike? You thought about it when you got up in the early morning, dreamed about it at night and tried to save every penny you could. “Mom, do you have and extra chores you’d like me to do? I don’t charge very much at all to weed the garden….”

That shiny, red Schwinn became, well, almost an obsession, didn’t it? Morning, noon and night and you twinkled, and glowed and plotted and schemed on how you could bring it to be….. in your garage with you running out to ride it everywhere!

We still have capability for that childlike joy and fixation. Why not focus on Him who loves us most? Why not let Him be the object of our thoughts, passion, obsession, focus and time? Out of the abundance of our heart flows the mouth. Why couldn’t that flow be about the Lord Jesus Christ and sharing with others what He had done in our lives. Give friends and family the “before and after” picture. Oh, my what a difference forgiveness and the Savior makes!

Psalm 14:2 tells us that the Lord looks down from heaven on the sons of men (daughters, he is watching us too) to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

Seeking God, what better person can we desire and look towards? He who created us, gave us our purpose, knew us BEFORE our mother’s womb, has plans for us still, desires relationship with us. Imagine that, the One who put the very stars in place wants a personal and intimate relationship with you! How can you ignore that thought for even another minute?

Psalm 63:1 David the psalmist is crying out with what can be our cry too “O God, you are my God, earnestly will I seek you, my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Here in Colorado about 11 of the past 12 years have been drought. Oh, how we can relate to that dry and thirsty land part and we can also seek Him with everything that is in us!

Prayer: Dear Lord, it is no wonder that David was a man after Your own heart. Please help us to have that seeking focus and not get distracted by externals. AMEN

Mr. Bull Frog's Timely Transfer

“Raymond, that bull frog is waking up the whole lake. How can we sleep with him carrying on?”

I turned over on my cot. It was only then I could hear a muffled “hmph” of the supposed offender. My sister and I would have a new project in the morning. I could tell.

It was dark, way too early to think about all of this right now. Pretty soon the only thing I could hear was Grandpa’s timber-rattling snores in the other room.

Dawn was peeking in the windows as the sun rose over the blue waters of Lake Ripley. I wiggled my sister’s foot so we could get an early start.

“Hey, do you think we can catch a bull frog with a net like we make to catch butterflies?”

“Huh? I’m sleeping. What’s the matter with you?”

After breakfast we got a plastic bread wrapper from Grandma, a metal coat hanger and a wooden yard stick. With those and some tape we’d made a frog net. We made sure to poke some holes in the bag so that the water would drain out when we caught the offending bull frog.

At the ages of 10 and 12 we were allowed to take the row boat all over the lake, so long as we had life jackets on and stayed close to the shoreline in case of bad weather or an accident. The folks sat on the porch and kept an eye on us through binoculars. Today was no different as we told them of our plan to capture Mr. Frog and take him over to the adjoining lake--Little Ripley. We packed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, apples and some drinks.

Soon we were paddling to the lily pads where we suspected the bull frog was living.

“I hear him! Go a little more to the right. See, there are those bulging eyes sticking up. Look how huge he is; bigger than my two hands together, and greenish-brown colors too.”

“Where? I only heard a splash.”

“Stop the boat and let’s listen. Just be really quiet. He was over there by that lily to the left.”

“Do you see himunder that leaf? Quick!”

I splashed the bread bag-net into the water and after several tries came up with the bull frog! “Man, he is huge, no wonder we can hear him at night.”

“I didn’t hear a thing, except Grandma getting all excited.”

“Oh, he is really interesting! Look at those eyes, he doesn’t seem happy to be here in the boat, does he?”

“DON’T let him get out!”

We rowed and rowed, keeping that frog in the plastic bag with some water in the bottom of the boat. He didn’t even let our one “hmph” on the whole trip. The sun was glinting on the quiet waves as it warmed up. We took off our sweatshirts and kept going.

Squeak, dip, slosh, squeak, dip slosh were the hypnotic sounds we heard from the oars as I paddled around the lake towards our bull frog’s new home.

“Hey, what was that huge splash? Did he get away?”

“Hope, I just saw a large pike jump on the left side of the boat.”

“Boy, I thought we’d lost him. Look at that darning needle.”

We both saw the dragon-fly hovering over the oar lock, with its beautiful glistening wings slightly in motion. The frog must have seen it too as his tongue began flickering in anticipation of a snack, but the dragon-fly stayed just out of reach.

“Hey, Mr. Frog, soon we’ll have a brand new home for you in another batch of lily pads and far enough away so we’ll never hear you again in the night time.”

Look, there are some cat tails coming up. This looks like the place to go into Little Ripley!”

I knew from past explorations that the water here got really shallow between the two lakes, but they were sort of connected. I jumped out with my flip-flops squishing in the mud, pulling the front of the boat behind me.

There we were...in Little Ripley.

“Look, there are more lily pads!”

“Come here, you wiggly guy. Off you go into your new home.”

My sister grabbed the bread bag and its greenish-brown occupant and unceremoniously dumped him over the side of the old row boat.

All we heard as our passenger dipped out of sight under a flowering lily pad was, “Hmph-Hmph.”

God is Pouring Out His Best

God is pouring out rest, restoration, refreshing and renewal, as you relinquish your grip/gripping hands and open them, raising them up to praise the only One who is mighty to save. Jesus is worthy of your praise. HE is able. HE is releasing you and setting you free. Yours is but to yield and let Him do His most wonderful and complete work.
Nothing is impossible for Him.
Selah (pause and think calmly about that) Shout unto God with a voice of triumph. Shout unto God with a voice of victory. HE really is able!!!

Psalm 47:1 Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph!
We get so excited at a game by “our” team… can we not do ever better praising the Lord God almighty? There are many examples in the Bible of lavish, loud and exorbitant praise. Why should we be left out of any of that? We should not. Let us give complete praise to Him who is due all our praises…

DIGGING DEEPER
This afternoon, take a few quiet minutes to read and reflect on the following scriptures. What are they saying to you, right where you are sitting. Then take a few minutes to praise our God and King. Yes, dance in the living room, sing to Him, shout onto God with a voice of triumph – your voice!

Ezra 9:8

Isaiah 61:1-3

Exodus 32:18

2 Timothy 1:12

My Commitment:

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to be free with lavish worship to You who are so much more than worthy. Help us to leave our inhibitions behind and come boldly into worshipping You. Lord You are our EVERYTHING! Oh, Jesus, in Your name we pray. AMEN

You are Precious in His Sight

You are precious in My sight – I have plans for you – I delight in you – I set you free and want to RUN with you (through meadows of flowers and on the daily paths too) Is anything impossible for Me? Is anything impossible for Me in your family or life? I desire to show Myself LARGE on your behalf. Will you let Me? Expect the unexpected – delight yourselves in your Jesus – He died to set you free and is doing just that.

God sends us His love letters in so much of His Word to us (the Bible). He comments and states over and over how wonderful and precious we are to Him. He comments about His plans for us , who could know us better than He who created us? He also knows what will fulfill us best in this life. Then, He sent His only son to die in our place so that we might be set free. In Christ Jesus is the provision for our every need. He will meet us there.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV Bible) “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

DIGGING DEEPER
Let’s look up a few portions of the Word of God. Please write down what they are speaking to you for your situation right now.
2 Sam 22:20

Ro 6:22

My Commitment:

Prayer: Dear God, help us to grow in our understanding of the huge price that way paid on our behalf. Please help us to get “self” out of the way and let You lead us so that we may truly “run” with You. We thank You over and over for all You have done for us and for giving us Your Word. We pray asking these things in the name of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.

Comment on Promises

Promises That Are Really Reliable and Promises That Are Kept

Thinking back to childhood I remember those statement we made to a friend ending with “I promise you, cross my heart and hope to die!” Sometimes we weren’t able to keep those childish commitments no matter how strong our intent had been. Today, I try not to promise. I try to say if it is at all possible I will do thus and so. Or I might say, I can’t promise you that circumstances will not come up where I could keep this quiet. I have found, over the years, that sometimes things need to be told or shared in order for accounts to be cleared and healing or forgiveness take place.

There are other things we can promise with clarity of heart knowing that with God’s help we can stick with our commitment.

Are there promises we can hold on to? You’d better believe there are and they are found in the Word of God. There are many, many that should be an encouragement to us each and every day. We need to read His Word and apply it to our life and walk and even use the Word as a basis for our prayers. God said it and we can pray it. Why not leave the demons trembling? They cannot argue with God’s Word. He is whispering to us even now:

Lift up my Son. Sing to Him your new song. Be faithful to my Word and the promises are yours.

Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. (NIV)

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD. (NIV)

So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. (NIV)

But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." (NIV)

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. (NIV)

Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. (NIV)

Prayer: Oh, dear Jesus, help us to grasp what You have promised and know that You are ever so true to Your Word.  AMEN

Procrastinator, NOT

Fron hike this weekend - back way to Buena Vista/Salida, CO

I have decided that I am wired differently than most people.

In college, I never dated on a week night EXCEPT during final week. Review my notes, and go out for a Pepsi with a guy and come back to the dorm and get a good night’s sleep. If I didn’t know it by then I never would. I studied as I went along – tried to get my term papers done and turned in early because there was such a sense of relief to have it “off my list”.

My best friend in life is a great procrastinator. She used to be a teacher and would have things hanging over her head all summer vacation then scrambling around she got them done a week or so before school started. I abhorred things hanging over my head so would dig in and not wait for the deadline.

My wisdom teeth did not cooperate. I was told in high school when I had braces that there was no room in my mouth for wisdom teeth and I had to have them out the minute they began making their appearance. And I waited with that hanging over my head. Finally, they “communicated” with my sinuses and there was an infection. I was then in my 40s and thinking it was seriously past time for my “smart teeth” to make an appearance. By that time I had this so worked up in my mind I was panicked.

That morning in my quiet time there was a scripture about God taking me by the hand and hanging unto me. When I got to the dentist’s office there was a perky little gal with a button on her lab coat “Let’s Keep Christ in Christmas” I poured out my angst to her. She assisted the dentist and with her other hand literally held mine through the procedure. I did incredibly well even though my teeth procrastinated in spite of me and I ended up with no lower wisdom teeth – there had never been any so we only had to deal with the uppers. They gave me a sleeping pill and a shot of Demerol as they told me I wouldn’t be all the way “out” but I wouldn’t care what they did. I thought “yah, sure…” but they were right – I felt pressure but absolutely no pain.

Also, I am totally blessed to say that I married Mick – he is wired just like me. We always show up at least 10 minutes early for appointments and after 28 years married procrastination is not a word that is applied in our home. We’d both rather get things off our list and then relax and enjoy ourselves!

A Few of My Favorite Things

Agreeing to disagree – my very best friend is a pretty liberal democrat. We have been really close for 43 years now. We agree on major things like God, family and standing by each other. How can this be? Over the years there are just some things we have agreed to disagree about. Paula dropped everything when Mick and I were moving from Texas to Oregon and I twisted my foot (and broke bones) in our final garage sale before the move. She cleaned our rental and helped Mick finish packing and drove one vehicle to Oregon, me, with my foot on the dashboard to keep the swelling down. I marveled and she said “Jo, you’d have done the same thing for me….”  After thinking about it for a minute I knew she was right.

Kittens – there is nothing better than interacting, laughing and playing with a kitten. They are soft, furry and purry. Feisty little things who think they are monster huge and will attack something (someone) 9 times their size to prove this. Our Jazzy at 2# proved this much to the dismay of our more sedate Hooney who weighs in at 18# and at 11 is much more dignified than this kitten stuff. He has forgotten how he used to be but I have photos.

Chocolate……Rich, smooth, melting on the tongue. A moment on the lips, forever on the hips…. Enough said.

Sunrise in the mountain meadow or sunset, clear skies, clean air and the skies all painted by the Lord to the delight of our eyes.

Writing with flight of thought, stream of consciousness painting word pictures for our readers.
Purple iris smelling like grape Kool -Aid, beauty unsurpassed in their delicacy yet strong enough to survive our gale force winds.

Defrosting the chest freezer and finding some of the best soups I have ever made and dinner without cooking tonight.

Family and friends who are closer than a brother (or sister) and being blessed so much by both.
My “adopted” brother Eddie who married my roommate and best friend, they both have been with me through it all over the past 43 years. (Ed since 1966!)

My husband and male best friend, we are wired much the same and growing more in love and commitment to each other with the passing years.

My Lord and Savior Jesus, I would have been dead by now the way I was going without Him. He is my delight and the reason I can smile, my joy and my life.
Books, being able to read and write, the public library helping me to quench my literary thirst over and over again.

To be an encourager, if you think that you are in a bad place with terrible things happening always look for someone worse off to try to impact. This has been a life-long focus of mine and it really works for you and for that other person.

I like praying for our world in a large sense and for those people who are up close and personal. Prayer and Jesus change things on a daily basis.

I like learning, growing and studying more as the years go by. I think to stop would be to die in a way that I don’t even want to find out about.

Who Forgives and Who Punishes

Do you remember when your baby, or niece or nephew was trying to take those first steps? He or she would pull up and put out one foot, boom, right down on their little bottom they’d go. Did the adults around punish the toddler for falling down, of course not, most of the time they probably laughed or smiled and clapped at the attempt. Our Father in heaven is the same way. He doesn’t get angry at us for trying to toddle even on those occasions we take a step and “go boom”. He is glad we try, happy we are attempting to walk in the light with Him. He is more than willing to reach out and help us stand up again. Once again I can hear Him whispering His encouragement:

Child, be not dismayed nor think that I have left you. I forgive. Satan is the accuser. Be released. Absorb yourself in My Word. Go forth on wings of strength and prayer. Talk to Me but don’t be in bondage. I release you in Jesus’ name, I love you. Selah, You are my child.

In Isaiah 41:10 we are encouraged not to fear because God is with us. We are also told not to be dismayed because He is our God who will strengthen us and uphold us with His right hand.

Can we reach out and grasp our Daddy’s most capable hand? He is there ready and waiting to help us as we try to walk in His way and we mist certainly do not have to plunge forward alone.

Deuteronomy 31:6 exhorts us to be strong and courageous, not terrified because the Lord goes with us; He will never leave us nor forsake us.

Does His presence and help sound pretty permanent in this verse? Well, be encouraged.

Revelation 12:10 is speaking about the accuser of the brethren being thrown down. Satan is the one who accuses. Jesus is He who has authority and has died to set us free.

Back to Isaiah 40:31 with the promise that those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength (not might or maybe but WILL) and soar on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint. That is a promise that each of us can use daily. Chew on it for awhile and let it sink in to your consciousness.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, your forgiveness is most thorough and complete – thank you for setting this captive FREE! Continue to give us ears to hear and eyes to see, daily! AMEN

What is More Important to You, Being Right or Being Teachable

Child, your interpretation of what I’m saying isn’t always literal. However, if you keep your heart seeking after Me, open to correction as you have, you shall grow and know. Fear Not. Always being right isn’t as important as being teachable, learning from miscues and slip ups. Selah. I truly love you. You do delight Me.

We all know those people who always have to be right. I don’t mean making right and good choices but that their opinion, information, thoughts and what they share is correct and no one else is unless they agree with that person’s ways, thoughts or ideas. Many of us find it OK to be “wrong” and admit it when we are. The world would be mighty narrow and predictable if we couldn’t/wouldn’t keep on learning. Learning is growing. We should never be afraid to grow and keep in learning through the days of our lives. Thinking you have it all down pat is a pretty arrogant way to look at things and would be stifling, I am afraid. No matter what our chronological age, “we have only just begun”. It is wisdom that the older we get, the more we realize how much we have to learn.

1 Chronicles 22:19 Now set your heart and soul to seek the Lord your God…….

DIGGING DEEPER

Let’s look up a few verses writing down what the Lord is teaching us through them.

Proverbs 6:23

Proverbs 13:18

Proverbs 29:15

Proverbs 1:5

Proverbs 4:2

My Commitment:

Prayer: Our Father in heaven, thank You for your many blessings and benefits.  Thank You for teaching us and even for helping us to be teachable. You give understanding. We can even or maybe especially learn from our mistakes. Who IS like You, oh, Lord! We pray in the mighty name of Jesus, AMEN.
